METHODIST DAILY REFLECTION FOR TODAY MONDAY, 28TH SEPTEMBER 2026 - A MODEL FOR SELFLESS LIVING

PASSAGE: PHILIPPIANS 2:1-7

1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,

2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

MESSAGE:

Jesus is a perfect example or model for selfless living, a perfect Guide for Christians. He never hides this truth from His followers, but clearly asserted in John13:15, that He has given us examples and expects us to follow same examples of his way of living. It is this selflessness that made Him to sacrifice His heavenly comfort to come to the world to show us the way to the Father. Verses 6-7 of the text state, "who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men."

The above quotationshows the humility of Christ, being a member of the Godhead with the father, but took upon Himself the model of servanthood, that He may serve better.

Therefore, as His followers who must live in His footsteps, we are admonished to live a life of selflessness which will help us to impact others.

Hence, selfless living is all about making sacrifice for the good or comfort of others. The question then is: How have you touched lives in your family, among brethren, work environment, school, and those in your neighbourhood?

As Jesus is a model of selfless living to believers, be a model to your own generation and be remembered as such forever like we remember Jesus all over the world today.

PRAYER

Father, the Fountain of wisdom, clothe me with humility and selfless life of service that, like your Son, Jesus Christ, I will be a good example to my generation as Jesus is to us. Amen
