METHODIST DAILY REFLECTION FOR 27TH SEPTEMBER, 2026 - REMEMBERING GOD'S WORK

DATE
: SUNDAY, 27TH SEPTEMBER 2026

THEME: REMEMBERING GOD'S WORK

PASSAGE: PSALM 78:1-4

1 Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
2 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:
3 Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.
4 We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.

MESSAGE:

A people without generational history is a nation heading for loss of historical root or foundation. Every generation cherishes its past which is rooted in culture and traditions carried down and preserved, particularly to teach the morals and values that aid the young ones to thread the path leading to a worthwhile life. Obviously, such inherited legacies are stories of patriotic individuals who laid their lives down in order to secure the territory, or to attract certain favours to the community, or even a corrective measure given to an evil doer to serve as caution to intending individuals to avoid such evil intentions.

The text for today's devotion reminds us of the goodness of God. The Psalmist says, we will not hide it but tell it to the generation, even unto those yet unborn. This is simply saying that the acts of the Lord will be preserved to be told from generation to generation.

Then, what are these acts of God deserving our praise?

His deliverance to the Israelites. Today, God is still delivering His own from the activities of Satan and his agents.

His mercy is still the same as in the past.

He gives us good health, delivering His children from strange diseases as He did for our forebears.(Ps.103:3)

His deeds are too many to mention. However, use this applauded and treasured for future reference. As you do this, remember to remain opportunity to ruminate and recount the cherished acts of God worthy to be grateful to Him and continue to praise His acts wherever the opportunity calls. A grateful person will always be richly blessed.

MEMORY VERSE:

"My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord, And all flesh shall bless His holy name forever and ever." Psalms 145:21

HYMN: MHB 380(8.7.8.7 and refrain) I Will sing the wondrous story

1. I WILL sing the wondrous story
Of the Christ who died for me;
How He left His home in glory,
For the Cross on Calvary.

REF: Yes, I'll sing the wondrous story
Of the Christ who died for me
Sing it with the saints in glory.
Gathered by the crystal sea.

2. I was lost; but Jesus found me
Found the sheep that went astray;
Raised me up and gently led me
Back Into the narrow way.

3. 1 was bruised; me :But Jesus found me
Faint was I from many a fall;
Sight was gone,and fears possessed me :
But He freed me from them all.

4. Days of darkness still come o'er me;
Sorrow's paths I often tread :
But the Saviour still is with me,
By His hand I'm safely led.

5. He will keep me till the river
Rol's Its waters at my feet;
Then He'll bear me safely over,
Where the loved ones I shall meet.
