WEEK/TONIC 36

TOPIC: PUTTING ON THE ARMOUR OF LIGHT

TEXT: ROMANS 13:11-14.

11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

OBJECTIVE: To always depend on the Power of God not of flesh

INTRODUCTION

Putting on the armor of light as seen in our anchor passage today, Romans 13:12, is a spiritual metaphor for embracing righteousness and living a life that reflects God's light, rejecting darkness and its deeds. It signifies a conscious choice to live in accordance with God's will, embodying virtues like truth, faith, and love. This should be a daily spiritual practice, involving prayer, Scripture reading, and fellowship with believers.

POINTS FOR CONVERSATION

1. Putting on the armour of light is synonymous with putting on the Lord Jesus Christ. Discuss. Rom. 13:12; Gal. 3:27, Eph. 4:24.

2. The Armour of Light signifies the protective and empowering nature of living a life that reflects God's holiness and righteousness. Discuss. Psalm 91:1-2; Isaiah 4:5.

3. How can we practically put on the armor of light? Colossians 3:12-14; Romans 12:2; Eph. 4:22-24; Matthew 5:14-16

CONCLUSION.

Putting on the armour of light is equivalent to putting on the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. Those who walk, pray, speak, and loves like Jesus are considered to be wearing this armor. This armour will in turn offer protection from the forces of darkness and the attacks of the world.

MEMORY VERSE: Romans 13:12 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armour of light.
