METHODIST DAILY REFLECTION FOR TODAY WEDNESDAY, 9TH SEPTEMBER 2026 - DIVINE GLORY

DATE: WEDNESDAY, 9TH SEPTEMBER 2026

THEME: DIVINE GLORY

PASSAGE: EXODUS 15:1-7

1 Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the Lord, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
2 The Lord is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him.
3 The Lord is a man of war: the Lord is his name.
4 Pharaoh's chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea.
5 The depths have covered them: they sank into the bottom as a stone.
6 Thy right hand, O Lord, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O Lord, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.
7 And in the greatness of thine excellency thou hast overthrown them that rose up against thee: thou sentest forth thy wrath, which consumed them as stubble.

MESSAGE:

T he events of Exo. 14:5-31 must be understood in other to appreciate the majesty and power of the Almighty God expressed in the song of the sea by Moses and the children of Israel unto the Lord (Exo. 15: 1-21), which expresses the overthrow of the Egyptians in the Red Sea.

Exodus 15:1ff is the first song to the Lord recorded in the Holy Scriptures. It is obvious from the plentiful allusions to this song in the Holy Scripture that it is full of deep spiritual Significance. It marks the beginning of the rich Hebrew poetry. It is in three parts of 1-5; 6-10, and 11-19.

The song teaches us not only to praise God concerning the literal and figurative overthrow of 'Egypt' but also to praise Him concerning the overthrow of all the powers of evil and the final deliverance of all the chosen. The song is all of God. It is blessed praise, rejoicing as the Egyptians lie at the bottom of the sea like stone 9v.5), when everything that is in us that is commendable is traced to the grace of God and the Lord is magnified for it.

All for the glorification of Jesus and none but Jesus. We spoil our music by diverting our thoughts to people. Let us forget time, earth, self, this mortal life and only think of our God. Observe that the song dwells on what God has done: 'the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea'. When we read human history, we should read it to see the finger of God in it, trace through the human story the silver. line of covenant working. Observe how the Lord casts the horse and his rider into the sea when they came out against Him and His people.

The song teaches us that God is many things to us: He is our strength, our salvation, our Elshaddai - the great One, a Man of war and the Great I AM that I AM. God's right hand is "glorious in power" and capable of "dashing the enemy in pieces." At "the blast of His nostrils, the waters were gathered together and the floods stood upright as a heap."

MEMORY VERSE:

"Thy right hand O Lord, is become glorious in power, Thy right hand, O Lord hath dashed in pieces the enemy" Exodus 15:6
