DATE
: TUESDAY, 22ND SEPTEMBER 2026

THEME: REPENT AND BE SAVED

PASSAGE: EZEKIEL 33:23-30

23 Then the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
24 Son of man, they that inhabit those wastes of the land of Israel speak, saying, Abraham was one, and he inherited the land: but we are many; the land is given us for inheritance.
25 Wherefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Ye eat with the blood, and lift up your eyes toward your idols, and shed blood: and shall ye possess the land?
26 Ye stand upon your sword, ye work abomination, and ye defile every one his neighbour's wife: and shall ye possess the land?
27 Say thou thus unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; As I live, surely they that are in the wastes shall fall by the sword, and him that is in the open field will I give to the beasts to be devoured, and they that be in the forts and in the caves shall die of the pestilence.
28 For I will lay the land most desolate, and the pomp of her strength shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, that none shall pass through.
29 Then shall they know that I am the Lord, when I have laid the land most desolate because of all their abominations which they have committed.
30 Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the Lord.

MESSAGE

When a man sees himself as his own helper it becomes difficult for him to be helped. The remnants of Israel in the land after the Babylonian captivity did not change their ways. Rather, they laid claims to the land and the property left by those taken into captivity. They said, "Abraham was a single man and God gave him the land but we are many."

As a result they saw themselves as well able to possess the land and in their own strength ruled over the land and sustained themselves. With that audacity they began to commit the same abominable things going on in the land before the Lord sent them into exile. Hence, they broke the law, indulged in adultery, ate meat with blood and worshiped the gods of neighbouring nations.

God was unhappy with them, and He instructed Prophet Ezekiel to warn them of the atrocities they were committing.

Our today's society is not exempted from this kind of evil. People live sinful lives to please themselves not minding the supremacy of God. The Society and the Church are guilty. We see leaders who begged to be elected into offices but turned to be oppressors as soon as they assumed power. Also, Christian leaders often lose sight of their calling and responsibility to become men pleasers for self-esteem and gratification.

Nevertheless, God was not pleased with the captives though they accepted His rebuke as verse 30 says: "As for you, son of man, the children of your people are talking about you beside the walls and in the doors of the houses; and they speak to one another, everyone saying to his brother, 'Please come and hear what the word is that comes from the Lord.' But verse 31 says that they refused to change because "their hearts go after their covetousness,"

Beloved, God is calling those outside His plan to turn a new leaf and embrace His free gift of salvation. And it may not be you but a member of your family, friends, co-workers or neighbours. Talk to them and lead them to repentance and you will receive a crown of glory in heaven at last.

MEMORY VERSE:

"Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion". Hebrews 3:15

HYMN: MHB 331(L.M. and refrain) BEHOLD Me standing at the door

1. Behold Me standing at the door,
And hear Me pleading ever¬more:

May I come in? May I come in?

CHORUS
Behold me standing at the door,
and hear me pleading evermore
say, weary heart, oppressed with sin,
may i come in? may i come in?

I waited long and patiently :
Say, weary heart, oppressed with sin,
May I come in? May I come in?

Remember all My grief and pain
I died to ransom thee from sin,
May I come in? May I come In?

4. 1 bring thee joy from heaven above,
I bring thee pardon, peace, and love :
Say, weary heart, oppressed with sin,
May I come In? May I come In?
