METHODIST DAILY REFLECTION FOR TODAY SATURDAY, 12TH SEPTEMBER 2026 - DANGERS OF UNFORGIVENESS
DATE: SATURDAY, 12TH SEPTEMBER 2026
THEME: DANGERS OF UNFORGIVENESS
PASSAGE: MATTHEW 18:21-27
MESSAGE:
Unforgiveness is the inability or unwillingness to forgive someone for an offence. Unforgiveness can lead to bitterness of heart, spiritual dryness and murder.
In our passage today, Apostle Peter asks about the limits of granting of forgiveness, to those who offend us.
He says (Matt. 18:21) "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Till seven times?"
The summary of Jesus' answer is that forgiveness is a deep reservoir of grace that ought never to run dry. God's forgiveness knows no end and so also should our relationship be governed by a grace that knows no bound. Who can offend another person 490 times? Forgive and forgive and forgive! If someone can forgive one who owes him about 29,000 dollars at that time, why will one not forgive?
Dangers of Un-forgiveness:
Unforgiveness will imprison you: As much as you fail to forgive, you are shackled to the past, because unforgiveness keeps pain alive and robs you of the joy of living.
Unforgiveness produces bitterness: the longer you remember the offence, the more you become bitter. Bitterness is not just a sin but also an infection which can kill.
It opens door for Satan: Unforgiveness will give Satan an open door into the unforgiver's life (2 Corinthians 2:20-11).
Unforgiveness hinders fellowship with God: Jesus said that if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. (Mark 12:25). Therefore, if you do not forgive others, God, too, will not forgive you your sins.
MEMORY VERSE:
"Be angry, and do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil". Ephesians 4:26-27
HYMN: MHB 444 (6.4.6.4.) BELOVED let us love
1. BELOVED, let us love :
Love is of God;
In God alone hath love
Its true abode.
2. Beloved, let us love :
For they who love,
They only are His sons,
Born from above.
3. Beloved, let us love :
Por love Is rest,
And he who loveth not,
Abides unblest.
4. Beloved, let us love :
In love is light,
And he who loveth not,
Dwelleth in night.
5. Beloved, let us love :
For only thus
Shall we behold that
God Who loveth us.

My Father and God, give me a forgiving heart to forgive those who offend me. Amen.
