METHODIST DAILY REFLECTION FOR TODAY 25TH AUGUST, 2026 - THE ROLE OF GRATITUDE
DATE: TUESDAY, 25TH AUGUST 2026
THEME: THE ROLE OF GRATITUDE
PASSAGE: PSALMS 124
1 A Song of Ascents. Of David. If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, let Israel now say-- 2 if it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us, 3 then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their anger was kindled against us; 4 then the flood would have swept us away, the torrent would have gone over us; 5 then over us would have gone the raging waters.
6 Blessed be the Lord, who has not given us as prey to their teeth! 7 We have escaped as a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped! 8 Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
MESSAGE:
Psalm 124 emphasizes the vital role of gratitude in recognizing God's faithfulness and the importance of His deliverance. It highlights that without God's intervention, the nation of Israel would have been consumed by their enemies. The psalm urges believers to remember and appreciate God's protection and to respond with gratitude and thanksgiving.
Psalm 124 prompts a reflection on God's past faithfulness, specifically His rescue of His people from enemies. This memory serves as a reminder of God's power and a source of His strength for future challenges.
The psalm calls for a response of gratitude and praise to God for His deliverance. This is not just an acknowledgment but an act of worship that strengthens one's relationship with God.
When believers remember how God has helped them in the past, it reinforces their trust in Him for the future. Gratitude strengthens faith, making it easier to believe in God's continued protection and provision.
Psalm 124 concludes by declaring that "our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth" (Psalm 124:8). This emphasizes the importance of recognizing God as the ultimate source of help and deliverance. The psalm encourages believers not only to express gratitude personally but also to share their faith with others. This strengthens the community of believers and reminds them that God's help is available to all.
MEMORY VERSE:
"If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us, then they (would have) swallowed us quick when their wrath was kindled." (Psalms 124:2-3)
HYMN: MHB 2 (L.M) ALL PEOPLE that on earth do dwell
1. ALL people that on earth do dwell,
Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice :
Him serve with mirth, His praise forth tell;
Come before Him and rejoice.
2. The Lord, ye know, is God Indeed;
Without our aid He did us make :
We are His folk. He doth us feed;
And for His sheep He doth us take.
3. O enter then His gates with praise;
Approach with Joy His courts unto;
Praise, laud, and bless His name always,
For It is seemly so to do.
4. For why? The Lord our God is good;
His mercy is for ever sure;
His truth at all times firmly stood,
And shall from age to age endure.
Amen
PRAYER:
Lord God Almighty, help us to express our gratitude to you daily and to share our faith with others in Jesus' Name.
