METHODIST DAILY REFLECTION FOR TODAY SUNDAY, 6TH SEPTEMBER 2026 - THE UNSTOPPABLE EVANGELIST
DATE: SUNDAY, 6TH SEPTEMBER 2026
THEME: THE UNSTOPPABLE EVANGELIST
PASSAGE: ACTS 19:21-25
21 After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome.
22 So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season.
23 And the same time there arose no small stir about that way.
24 For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen;
25 Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth.
MESSAGE:
From the upper and inland coasts of the districts of Phrygia and Galatia, Paul arrived at Ephesus to preach the good news of Christ. For three months, he preached in the Synagogue, biding and loosing with the Holy Spirit unclean spirits. He also baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.
Paul resolved to go to Jerusalem and then to Rome, but he was prevented from doing so by the circumstances in Ephesus. He sent Timothy and Erastus ahead to Macedonia while he himself stayed in Ephesus for a while. This period in Ephesus led to a confrontation with the silversmiths who were concerned about the decline in their business due to Paul's preaching about Jesus.
There are bound to be opposition whenever and wherever we preach the Word of God. Paul, too, was opposed in Ephesus and he left the Synagogue and started his own congregation "disputing daily in the school of one 'Tyrannus" for a space of three years. What a great and unstoppable evangelist! As we take up different assignments in the ministry, let us be reminded that there will be obstacles and different challenges along the way. The question is how do we handle such obstacles and challenges.
Do we shy away and temporarily forget that even Christ has warned that in doing what is right, there would be tribulations. Paul did not find things easy at all as he preached the gospels (see 2 Cor. 11:23ff). Keep praying and doing all that you can to ensure that you succeed in your chosen or assigned ministry. The Lord will arise and it shall be well with your soul, and you will smile at the end.
MEMORY VERSE:
"And the evil Spirit Jesus I know and Paul I answered and said, know but who are ye?" Act 19:15
HYMN: MHB 281 (CM) GO not, my soul, in search of Him
1. Go not, my soul, In search of Him,
Thou wilt not find Him there,
Or In the depths of shadow dim,
Or heights of upper air.
2. For not In far-off realms of space
The Spirit hath His throne;
In every heart He findeth place,
And waiteth to be known.
3. Thought answereth alone to thought,
And soul with soul hath kin;
The outward God he findeth not,
Who finds not God within.
4. And if the vision come to thee
Revealed by Inward sign,
Earth will be full of Deity,
And with His glory shine.
5. Thou shalt not want for company,
Nor pitch thy tent alone;
The indwelling God will go with thee,
And show thee of His own.
6. O gift of gifts! O grace of grace.
That God should condescend
To make thy heart His dwelling place
And be thy dally Friend I
PRAYER
